Frontage Typeface

Frontage is a charming layered type system with endless design possibilities using different combinations of fonts and colors. Achieve a realistic 3D effect by adding the shadow font or just use the capital letters of the regular and bold cut for stark artwork. The typeface’s design is based on a simple grid which creates the friendly, handcrafted look of facade signs. It is generously spaced for maximum impact of your message. As a display typeface Frontage loves color and is suitable for headlines and logotypes. Details include 224 characters in five styles and manually edited kerning.

Exploring the stories behind typefaces named after women, the final product of woodcut ligature necklaces is packaged with a design reminiscent of a business card giving the personal information of the inspiring women.

Tony Lee, Jr. works in New York at Pentagram - however his personal portfolio has some gems in, including this experimental book of William Faulkner’s ‘As I Lay Dying’.

The book contains fifteen characters all of whom contribute voice and tone in streams of consciousness as the book goes on.

The experiment here sees each of the voices allocated a different typeface before being typeset within the whole book. Typographically not the easiest feat to pull off, but interesting to take a look at. However the grid is simple, and the use of images help to break up the spreads and make the content more manageable.

Shelby White made his ‘Typefaces of the World’ poster back in January, but has now made it round all the problems faced in printing it and it looks great.
The detailed process to achieve white text on a black stock involved printing two layers of silver before overlaying the white on top. The result is a vivid and clear print though…nice.

Came across this great vintage advertisement for Helvetica.
It’s rare you see advertising for fonts these days, and it’s even greater to see it with such a human approach reminiscent of vintage cigarette adverts and pretty much anything else from 1950s America.
