LIFE have a small gallery of photos documenting the construction of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, which was completed in May of 1937.

Chronicling his adventure of cycling around the coasts of the British Isles, photographing and talking to people along the way, Nick Hand’s new self-published book ‘Conversations On The Coast’ looks very worthy of the purchase.
The book looks like a piece that’s a real snapshot of a lot of culture and craft that is often forgotten today.

‘In 2007, a Chicago estate agent stumbled across an astonishing visual archive of mid-century America. So began one man’s mission to rediscover Vivian Maier: nanny, eccentric and ‘photographer extraordinaire”

Vivan Maier’s photography is occassionally hit and miss but she had an undoubted eye for shooting in the streets of 1950s America. The story behind the discovery of her work as well as the overall quality of the work makes scrolling through the images all the more interesting.

This has definitely done it’s rounds on most design blogs but it’s too well exectued to ignore.
Peter Orntoft’s infographics series studying the topic of whether or not the Danes thinks its ethical to wear religious symbols in public professions adds a real personal and relatable access point to the information he’s presenting. Brilliant use of photographs, colour, and non-intrusive typography.

Designer Brandon Schaefer has a portfolio quite focused towards film poster design, this one in particular caught my eye from his set.
An element of my final year project is taking a look at film posters and how can creating a design outside of the generic conventions play part in bettering the way people approach going to the cinema… This poster is spot on.
I rarely reblog but kudos to Beth for the heads up. Who also rightly observes “Film posters should intrigue and entice”…

Also: Apologies for being so off-grid recently, work is full on and I’m behind on the internet… Thanks for all sticking with it.

Patrick Joust has an insightful photo set on his flickr account of images all taken in and around Baltimore.
One of the highest praises of David Simon’s highly acclaimed TV show The Wire, is how honest and balanced it’s presentation of the city is, to the point where the city becomes a character in itself. Joust’s photography captures a similar feel I think.
