Minimalist Lego characters campaign by Jung von Matt.

I’ve already missed the internet throwback as to whether the ideas were stolen from various designs previously posted on the internet. The article I link to I think sums it up fairly though: This fun series, though highly enjoyable for its nostalgic and stripped aesthetic, seems to have risen some controversy over its origins. Adland.tv has pointed out a fan-created Lego representation of The Simpsons appeared on the internet before the official ad campaign launched. There is an indisputable resemblance between the two images that has raised some eyebrows and caused bloggers to question whether the idea was flat-out stolen. Whether it was or wasn’t remains a mystery, but one thing is for sure: the minimalist design is a great and effective one. It really makes you want to fish through some legos and construct your own simplified rendition of your favorite childhood cartoon character.

Photographer David Gray made a visit to China’s abandoned ‘Wonderland’ theme park. Obviously very inspired by Disneyland the park was never completed, and so the ruined city sits unfinished.

Directed by Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton, I’ve been avoiding the teaser trailers for ‘John Carter From Mars’- hoping it’s not going to fall too far into the ‘Avatar on Mars’ vein of things but perhaps fearing for the evident.
This teaser poster was recently released and was refreshingly eyecatching against the 13 common poster trends that were circulating the blogs last month.
Go and make your mind up about the film here.

This morning was spent binding the final copy of my dissertation.
Although I now have a lot more time to get on with the remaining juggernauht of project work, it’s a bit of a shame to see the dissertation go. Definitely an essay I’ve been wanting to write for a good long while.

My best eBay buy of last term was this amazing piece of Disney memorabilia-
A limited edition programme from Disney’s Fantasia, which accompanied the first run of the film in cinemas in 1940. Limited to 2000 copies, the 30-page programme takes you through each movement of the film, with colour artwork and written commentary of the music and animation. Equally cool is that the film’s original length is a whopping 2hours40mins, Which did badly to the point an 80 minute version was released in cinemas quickly after the premier. This programme is for the whole feature.
Michael Sporn Animation has scans of a copy, and you can have a flick through here.

Pixar have created quite a large campaign pushing for recognition in the Best Picture category of the upcoming Oscars.
Toy Story 3 stands as the best reviewed film of 2010, and the campaign highlights stills from the movie, linking images to previous films that have garnered rave reviews and also the Best Picture Oscar.
Some of the imagery I’m less keen on, and feels a bit rushed. However, what it manages to do brilliantly is present just how diverse the film is at times in terms of its set pieces and characters.

The Tron Legacy trailer is finally out after a lot of interactive viral events and special secret trailer screenings over the last two weeks.
I hate trailers and how they more than often spoil an entire film. Personally I watched it without sound, and dipped it in and out to try and hear some of the Daft Punk score, of which there is, and which sounds rad.
/Film took a ton of high res shots from the trailer which can be seen here.

Went and saw Disney’s Princess & The Frog last night. What an excellent return to 2D animation. It’s great to see them pretty much pull it off after a string of somewhat lesser films made in CGI animation. Although not perfect, I had a really great time.
