UK based ‘Because Studio’ have put together this simplistic but very effective branding identity for ‘Low Winter Sun’.
Low Winter Sun is the consultancy of Jonathan Atkinson specialising in developing innovative, creative, co-operative and environmental projects.
It’s a really subtle but yet massively loud piece of branding. Subtle in the sense that a very strong identity is put across really just through the colour scheme and used of type, and how consistently that’s applied to everything.

François-Charles (French design/everything blogger) has just put up this amazing piece of vintage car advertising…
I found these vintage Citroën brochures in my father’s studio. He worked on them in the 60s when he was working at « Delpire », one of the most creative french agencies of that period.
It’s interesting to see how pamphlets like these are just so different now. Incredibly glossy, with loads of close up shots of the car often driving in a desert or on an empty motorway.

Mode of Transformation Paper Promotion.
Mohawk is a company that sells paper, and to advertise one of their most premium paper types ‘Superfine’, they put together this fantastic publication chronicling the evolution and history of the bicycle.

It’s publication mailouts like these that makes me disappointed I don’t live in America…
Mark Bouyer, Max Loubaresse, and Anthony Vivien animated and directed (with two others) this fantastic animation short that brightened my day. The characterisation and animation style is fantastic, and the whole film makes these guys ones to watch in the future.
Pete is a nice and clumsy salesman. But he’s also a deadly super secret agent with a microprocessor implanted into his brain by some mad scientists from the government ! He has to secretly stop a bunch of badguys who stole a magic stone that can change anything into seafood !
Came across this great vintage advertisement for Helvetica.
It’s rare you see advertising for fonts these days, and it’s even greater to see it with such a human approach reminiscent of vintage cigarette adverts and pretty much anything else from 1950s America.

Marshall (famous for their long legacy of amps and other bits of music equipment) have announced that they’re soon to release a headphones range.
The packaging I think is the real hero of this product, presenting both itself and the product in an almost museum like way that makes it feel like Marshall have been making headphones for years.

NotCot have put up a great post with photos taking a look at the branding/illustration identity of Independant LA based pie shop ‘I Heart Pies’.

The Jazz 09 Journal was put together for the Guimaraes Jazz event roughly this time last year. Broadsheets feel a bit done these days, but this is undeniably brilliant use of the format.
Atelier Martino&Jaña’s portfolio has been taking up much of this morning’s procrastinating. Every project has such a great execution of typographic detailing, whilst all being quite individual. See all of the work here.
V&A and me, is a really fantastic project mapping out routes through London’s Victoria & Albert Museum. Each map takes selections from various designers/authors/media figures, and gives different routes to work through the museum.
It adds a brilliant personal touch to something many would class impersonal and boring. I’m in London next weekend so might try and grab the set. See more photos here.
Hoefler & Frere-Jones have been a recent go to for checking out fonts that I want and will probably never be able to afford anytime soon.
Click here to see their fantastic selection, and real attention paid to typographic detailing…

The global tree project is an initiative whereby artists create pieces that encourage people to engage with the natural world outside of their natural habitat.
This piece titled hanging tree was created by Shinji Turner-Yamamoto. See more photos here. He’s chosen the perfect setting for the installation.
Fabio Ongarato Design are the Australian design agency behind this great looking publication. What’s great about it is that with very little copy text, it manages to find both tone and identity to what the brand is all about.
Samantha Wills/ Autumn/Winter 2010

Came across this collection of developments for the original Sony Playstation logo. For the selection there I’d say they made the right choice, or is that because it’s a logo that everyone’s so used to these days?
